Interlocking Brick Installation in Barrie, Ontario

Built Tough for Barrie Winters — Beautiful All Year Long

Interlocking brick is one of the best ways to upgrade the outside of your home. It looks great, holds up in cold weather, and can last for decades when it is installed correctly.

At Barrie Concrete, we build driveways, patios, and walkways using stone pavers that are made for Ontario’s freeze-and-thaw winters. We dig deep, pack the base right, and lay every brick with care. This means you get a surface that stays level, stays clean, and stays strong for years.

Why Barrie Homeowners Choose Us for Interlocking Brick

We have been working across Barrie, Midhurst, Innisfil, and Simcoe County for years. We know the soil. We know the frost depths. We know what local inspectors look for. Also, we only use materials from Ontario’s trusted paver brands in Unilock, Oaks, and Techo-Bloc, so every project comes backed by a manufacturer warranty.

We dig deep

No shortcuts on base depth or gravel quality. We dig deep to clear the soft topsoil and ensure a rock-solid foundation.

We use real tools

Professional-grade compaction and cutting equipment used on every job — not cheap or underpowered rentals from a hardware store.

We follow local rules

Every patio, driveway, and waterfront path meets City of Barrie engineering standards and Ontario Building Code requirements.

We show up and finish

No dropped projects, no unexplained delays, and no chasing us down for answers. We commit to your project until it is done.

Interlocking Brick & Paver Installation Services

Interlocking Brick Driveways That Don't Sink or Shift

Your driveway takes a lot of weight every day. Cars, trucks, and delivery vehicles all press down on it, and in Barrie, the ground freezes and thaws every spring. That cycle can push poorly built driveways up, crack them, or make them sink.

We start every driveway by digging down at least 12 inches. Next, we fill that space with OPSS Granular A road base gravel. This is a strong, coarse material used in road construction — not just garden gravel. We then compact it down in 4-inch layers using a Wacker Neuson WP1550 heavy-duty vibratory plate compactor. This machine shakes the gravel into a rock-solid foundation. After that, we lay your bricks in patterns like Herringbone or Running Bond, which spread weight evenly. We also frame every driveway with a neat soldier-course border. This finished edge keeps everything locked in place, meeting residential driveway standards under Barrie By-law 2009-115.

Interlocking Patios, Steps, and Garden Walkways

A backyard patio should feel like an extension of your home. It should be safe, smooth, and something you are proud to show off. We build custom patios and walkways using Oaks Colonnade interlocking paving stones, which come in a range of colours and textures to match any home style.

Getting angles right is the hardest part of patio work. Curved edges, tight corners, and step transitions all need precise cuts. We use a Stihl TS 420 hand-held masonry cut-off saw with a diamond grit blade to make clean, exact cuts in every block. This tool lets us shape each stone perfectly so there are no gaps or raised edges. We also build custom stone steps where the yard changes levels. Every step we build follows Ontario Building Code (OBC) Section 9.8.4 for handrail requirements and riser height.

Sunken or Cracked Pavers? We Fix Them Without Replacing Everything

Over time, pavers can sink, shift, or crack. Tree roots push them up. Clay soil swells after rain. A soft base settles over the years. When this happens, many homeowners think they need a full replacement. In most cases, they do not.

We lift only the damaged stones using a Bon Tool 24-inch dual-handle paver lifter clamp. This tool grabs each brick cleanly without breaking the ones around it. Next, we dig out the weak base material underneath, add fresh Oaks bedding sand, and level it out properly. Then we lay the old bricks back down flat and flush. Finally, we sweep in Alliance Gator Maxx G2 Polymeric Sand to lock the joints tight. This repair brings your surface back to a safe, even finish that meets OBC Section 9.8.3.1 slip-resistance walking standards.

Permeable Pavers for Waterfront and Low-Lying Properties

Some properties in Barrie sit close to Kempenfelt Bay, Lake Simcoe, or low-lying areas in places like Tollendale, Innishore, and Shanty Bay. If your property is in one of these zones, the city and conservation authority have rules about how much water your driveway or patio can block.

This is where permeable pavers come in. Also called PICP (Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavers), these stones have wider gaps between them. Water soaks through those gaps and drains into a clean stone base below, instead of running off. We install Unilock Eco-Promenade permeable concrete pavers on top of an open-graded OPSS Granular B Type II sub-base. We set every slope using a Spectra Precision LL300N laser transmitter and receiver level kit, meeting LSRCA Watershed Development Policies under Ontario Regulation 179/06.

Paver Sealing and Sand Replacement to Keep Your Interlock Looking New

If your interlock is already in place but starting to look worn, weeds are growing in the joints, or the sand is washing out, a maintenance visit can fix all of that. This service is much less expensive than a repair and only takes one day.

First, we blast every joint clean using a Kranzle 1622TS professional high-pressure cold-water washer. This machine removes dirt, weeds, moss, and old sand without damaging the bricks. Next, we sweep in Techniseal HP NextGel Polymeric Jointing Sand, which fills the joints tightly and hardens when wet to block weeds and ants. Then, we apply a coat of Techniseal WL4 Wet-Look acrylic paver sealant. Our crew also collects all wash water through a filtration loop to stay in line with Barrie Sewer Use By-law 2018-095.

Common Questions About Interlocking Brick in Barrie

A driveway with a proper gravel base and correctly compacted sub-grade can last 25 to 35 years. The bricks themselves rarely wear out. What fails first is almost always a thin or poorly packed base. We build ours thick and tight, so yours lasts.

Standard sand washes out over time, and weeds take root in the gaps. We use polymeric sand, which hardens in the joints when water hits it. Once it cures, it locks the bricks together and blocks weed seeds from getting in. Also, when we seal the surface, that adds another layer of protection.

For most driveways and backyard patios in Barrie, no permit is required. However, if your property is near the waterfront or falls under LSRCA oversight, you may need one — and permeable pavers might be required. We know the local rules and can handle the paperwork for you.

Yes. We bring samples to every consultation and work with several local suppliers. In most cases, we can find a close match in colour, texture, and size. If your existing pavers are a popular brand like Unilock or Oaks, matching them is usually straightforward.

You can walk on it right away. For parking vehicles, we ask that you wait 24 to 48 hours after we finish. This gives the polymeric sand time to cure fully in the joints. Driving on it too soon can shift the bricks before the sand sets.
