Concrete Patio Installation in Barrie, Ontario

A backyard patio you can be proud of — built to last through every Ontario winter.

A concrete patio gives your backyard a solid, clean foundation. It handles kids, pets, patio furniture, and Barrie winters without falling apart. This means less fixing, less weeding, and more time enjoying your yard. Wood decks rot. Stone pavers shift and grow weeds over the years. Concrete does neither. Once it is poured and sealed, it holds its shape and stays put for decades. Also, you can pick from several styles and colors to match your home exactly. At Barrie Concrete, we plan, pour, and finish every patio from start to finish. We handle the permits, the gravel base, the steel, and the sealing. Next, we walk you through your options so you know exactly what you are getting before we break ground.

Why Barrie Homeowners Choose Us

There are plenty of concrete contractors in Simcoe County. Here is why our customers keep coming back — and why they refer us to their neighbors.

We Only Do Concrete

We do not split our time between ten different trades. Concrete is all we do. This means our crew has poured hundreds of slabs in Barrie's climate. We know what works here and what does not.

Fully Licensed and WSIB Insured

We carry full general contractor licensing and WSIB coverage on every job. This means if anything goes wrong on your property during the build, you are completely protected. You should never hire a concrete crew without asking for this first.

We Follow the Ontario Building Code

Some contractors skip the code details to save time. We do not. Every slab we pour meets Ontario Building Code standards for thickness, drainage, and reinforcement. Also, we handle your permit applications when they are needed so you do not have to.

We Leave Your Yard Clean

Concrete work is messy. We plan ahead so the mess stays on the job, not in your flowerbeds or driveway. After we finish, we haul away all the form lumber, leftover gravel, and waste concrete. Your yard goes back to normal as fast as possible.

Free Quotes With No Pressure

We come out, look at your yard, and give you a written quote. There is no sales pitch and no deadline pressure. If you want to get a second opinion, go ahead. We are confident in our pricing and our work.

Our Work Comes With a Written Warranty

We stand behind every patio we pour. If a defect shows up in the concrete due to our workmanship in the first year, we come back and fix it at no cost. You get this in writing before we start so there is no confusion later.

Choose the Right Look for Your Backyard

Not every patio needs to look the same. We offer four distinct surface styles. Each one has a different look, texture, and purpose. Here is a breakdown to help you pick the right one.

Stamped Concrete: The Stone Look Without the Stone Price

Stamped concrete looks like real stone, brick, or wood planks. We pour one solid slab and press a pattern into it while the surface is still wet. This means no shifting pieces, no weeds pushing through the gaps, and no annual re-leveling.

To make the surface last through Barrie winters, we first coat the wet slab with a silica-infused dry-shake color hardener. Next, our crew presses the texture in using heavy-duty polyurethane texture stamping mats to get a uniform depth across the whole surface. This process meets CSA A23.1 Class C-2 exposure limits for decorative freeze-thaw durability, which sets the standard for outdoor concrete in Ontario’s climate.

Exposed Aggregate: Grip, Texture, and a Natural Look

Exposed aggregate shows off the natural stones inside the concrete mix. The result is a rough, textured surface with a lot of grip. This makes it a popular choice for pool decks and lakeside patios where the ground often gets wet.

To get this finish right, we spread a surface retarder chemical agent across the slab right after we smooth it. This keeps the top layer soft while the rest of the slab firms up below. Then, we strip the top layer away using a high-pressure water-blasting wand to expose the stones. Also, we make sure all rinse water stays contained on site to follow the City of Barrie Zoning By-law 2009-141 Section 5.2 run-off restriction guidelines.

Broom Finish: Simple, Safe, and Reliable

A broom finish is the most common concrete patio style. It is clean, simple, and very slip-resistant. After we pour and level the slab, we drag a concrete broom across the surface. This creates thin ridges that help your shoes grip the surface even when it is wet.

We pour the slab using a Portland-slag cement concrete mix, which gives the surface a firm, stable base. Next, we smooth the wet concrete with a magnesium bull float to level out any high spots before we draw the broom. This texturing process keeps the finished surface in line with the Ontario Building Code Section 3.4.6.1 slip-resistance requirements for exterior pedestrian paths.

Custom Color and Stain: Make It Match Your Home

You do not have to live with gray. We can add color to your concrete in two ways. First, we mix color pigments directly into the concrete so the color runs all the way through the slab. Also, once the slab cures, we can brush on an acid stain to create a rich, uneven tone that looks almost like natural marble.

The stain we use is an acid-active metallic salt stain, which soaks into the concrete and reacts with it to create permanent color. We apply it evenly using an acid-resistant airless pump sprayer to avoid blotchy spots. After that, we neutralize and rinse off the leftover residue in line with the Ontario Environmental Protection Act Regulation 347 waste disposal standards for chemical wash water.

How We Build Your Patio: Step by Step

Here is exactly what happens from the day you call us to the day you walk on your new patio.

Step 1 - Measure & Mark

We mark the shape of your patio on the ground, check your yard's natural slope, and plan which way water will drain.

Step 2 - Dig & Lay Base

We remove topsoil and pack a deep layer of compacted road gravel. A good base stops the slab from sinking or shifting.

Step 3 - Forms & Steel Grid

We frame out the edges with wooden forms, lay the steel rebar grid, and lift it up on concrete chairs.

Step 4 - Pour & Finish

We pour the concrete and level it out, then apply your chosen finish - whether that is stamping, aggregate washing, or brooming.

Step 5 - Cut Control Joints

Within 24 hours of the pour, we cut neat, straight lines across the slab to guide any future natural cracking into hidden lines.

Step 6 - Seal the Slab

We let the concrete cure for 28 days, then return to power wash and apply a weather-resistant sealer.

Common Patio Questions from Barrie Homeowners

A well-built concrete patio in Barrie typically lasts 25 to 30 years or more. The key factors are the mix strength, a good gravel base, and steel reinforcement. Also, sealing it every two to three years keeps moisture and road salt from wearing it down.

Most ground-level patios under 10 square meters do not need a building permit in Barrie. That said, every property has a lot of coverage and setback rules. We check these for you before the job starts so there are no surprises later.

Mid-May through October is the best window. The concrete needs to stay above 4°C while it cures. Pouring during cold weather risks a weak slab, so we plan around the weather to get the timing right.

It can if you use a high-gloss sealer on its own. To fix this, we mix a fine grit additive called SharkGrip directly into the sealer before we apply it. This gives the surface a light texture that adds grip without changing how the pattern looks.

For a standard backyard patio, we pour at 4 inches thick. This handles normal foot traffic, patio furniture, and even a gas barbecue without any issues. If you plan to park a vehicle on it or install a hot tub, we go thicker — usually 5 to 6 inches with extra steel reinforcement to carry the added weight.

Most residential patios take one to two days to pour and finish. After that, we ask you to stay off the surface for at least 24 to 48 hours. The concrete reaches its full strength after 28 days. We come back at that point to seal it, so the whole process from pour to final seal takes about four weeks.

Interlocking stone pavers are individual pieces set on a sand bed. Over time, the sand shifts and the stones move. Weeds grow between the gaps and the surface becomes uneven. Concrete is poured as one connected slab. This means there are no gaps, no shifting, and no weeds. Also, a concrete patio costs less to maintain over its lifetime than re-leveling and replacing pavers every few years.

Sometimes yes, but it depends on the condition of the old slab. If the existing concrete is in good shape with no major cracks or sunken areas, we can pour a thin resurfacing layer on top. If the slab is heaved, cracked badly, or has drainage problems, it is better to remove it and start fresh. We take a look at the old slab before we give you a quote so you know exactly what makes sense for your situation.
